The funny things Chinese people say - 5

So it's recently gotten "cold" here. I say "cold" because it's still around 55, which isn't that cold but it's not 95 so people are freaking out. Anyway, yesterday I wore a short sleeve shirt so people at work were asking me how I wasn't cold. I started to explain how I didn't think it was all that cold, but nobody understood. My conversations often go like this: I start to explain something, quickly realize that it's too hard to explain with the limited vocabulary everyone has, then resort to saying something that everyone will understand that doesn't really answer the questions they asked... They also might understand me perfectly well, but not like what it is that I'm saying. Actually now that I think about it, the Shanghai-ers might not want to hear that their city isn't the coldest city in the world... they always want to be the "best"

Anyway... So I decided to quit explaining how I didn't think it was all that cold and just say that I have a lot of hair, and that it keeps more warm (which is true!). So I point to my arm hair and say: "This keeps me warm," which made them laugh, and then... someone said: "Your... fur"

Yup, that's right, I have fur...

Later that day I learned that sweater is mao yi, mao is fur/hair, so I'm going to blame my furryness on the translation!
