Pictures!

The Shanghai Grand Theater... I went to see "胡桃夹子“ (hu tao jia zi) which literally means "Walnut Clamp" (The Nutcracker). Better pictures can be found HERE

Another view, during the day

This is the inside of the Jin Mao Tower. I couldn't get any good pictures of it, but the best one I could find on the internet is HERE. I'm on the 87th floor, looking down on the loby of "the highest hotel in the world (53rd to 87th floor)."

Co-workers of mine, Sean and Lisa:

That's right... OKTOBERFEST IN SHANGHAI...

Oh yes... OKTOBERFEST AFTER PARTY!!

Late night snacks:

Delicious veggies, I haven't tried the meats. I don't think I will...

The closest garbage can...

This is the last bike picture for the week, I promise. I took a picture of this guy last night. That's about 10-12 feet of Styrofoam on the back of a bicycle...

Crazy huh? As he biked by he looked at me and gave a thumbs up!!

Chinese News

Two posts in the same day... you guys are so lucky...

This was sent to me by my great great friend Aruna. She seems to pay more attention to the Chinese news than I do...

I think this story sums up my experience with most Chinese people and what they believe to be true

Chinese girl gets 'kiss of deaf'

Chinese couple share a kiss
Couples are advised to "proceed with caution"

A young Chinese woman was left partially deaf following a passionate kiss from her boyfriend.

The 20-something from Zhuhai in Guangdong province arrived at hospital having completely lost the hearing in her left ear, said local reports.

The incident prompted a series of articles in the local media warning of the dangers of excessive kissing.

"While kissing is normally very safe, doctors advise people to proceed with caution," wrote the China Daily.

The doctor who treated the girl in hospital was quoted in the paper explaining what had happened.

"The kiss reduced the pressure in the mouth, pulled the eardrum out and caused the breakdown of the ear."

The chorus of warnings was echoed by the Shanghai Daily, which wrote: "A strong kiss may cause an imbalance in the air pressure between two inner ears and lead to a broken ear drum."

The young woman is expected to regain her full hearing within about two months.

There's a museum/exhibit in Shanghai that I've got some pictures of below. It's a scale model of what the city "will" look like in 2012 or something. Anyway it's pretty amazing, what's even more amazing is that not all of Shanghai is on it. The place where I work and the place where I used to live when I came here for a month aren't anywhere near this.

Now I was on my own bike, going for a nice Sunday ride when I came up on this guy. I only managed to get a few pictures, but you've gotta admit, the pajamas are hot!

Blog-a-thon

你好. Right, so work has become a little less crazy, so I've decided to fill the void by catching up on the last few months of pictures that I haven't posted. So... aaawaaaay we go...

This dude's bike is awesome! He pulled up to the bus stop I was at so I was lucky to get these pristine pictures. I love the "attachments" Chinese people add to their bikes. As you can see, he's got a very nice hut for his child to sit in on a cold day. In addition he's got a super awesome set of furry gloves attached to the bike handle bars. It's a great idea, I need to get me a pair!
